General Lee’s Daughter-The First Person Cremated and Interred in Lexington
Mary was the second child and first daughter of Confederate General Robert E. Lee and his wife, Mary Anna Custis Lee, she outlived all of her siblings.
She also has the distinction of being the first person to be cremated and interred in Lexington. After the deaths of her brothers and sisters, Mary was proud to announce to anyone who would listen that she was “the last surviving child of General Robert E. Lee.”
